FluOLinGo — the plain guide

FluOLinGo = Fluency On Linguistic Goals. A companion website for a French A1 course. Written 13 Sep 2026 from the code as it is today.

In a hurry? The QuickStart is the five steps you need to begin. This page is the same course in full, with a picture of every screen. ← Back to FluOLinGo

🧑‍🏫

In one breath

0
  • What this is: a homework helper for your French class. What it is not: a course that replaces the class.
  • The course is a road with 50 stops. Each stop is one goal (one thing you will be able to say or do in French).
  • At each stop you guess first, then learn, then practise, then come back to what you got wrong.
  • Nothing is locked. You can tap any stop at any time.
  • Wrong answers never punish you. They still earn points, and they come back later so you can fix them.

The grid idea. Think of a grid. Rows are the 50 goals. Columns are the activities.

  • Left / right moves along a row (same goal, next activity).
  • Up / down moves along a column (same activity, next goal).
  • Scrolling past the bottom of a page also carries you to the next goal, same activity.
  • Small arrows at the screen edges tell you where a swipe will take you.

The front door. The road, stop 1, and the ENTER coin. Tapping anywhere enters.
  • A full-screen picture of the road at the time of day it really is.
  • One orange ENTER coin. Tapping anywhere on the page enters too.

2.2 Home = the map (/home) Open on fluolingo.com ↗

Screenshot: home-3dScreenshot: home-2d
Home in 3D and in 2D. Same 50 stops, same controls above the map: the 2D/3D switch, the 🧑‍🎓 stop number, the zoom.
  • A 2D / 3D switch, a zoom (− / +, 30 to 200 %), and a 🧑‍🎓 number = your current stop.
  • The 🧑‍🎓 number is editable. Type a stop number to bookmark it as "where I am".
  • 5 units, 10 stops each: Unité 0 « Bienvenue en classe », 1 « Qui suis-je ? », 2 « Ma vie, mes envies », 3 « En ville », 4 « À table ! ».
  • Stop colours = what the goal is about: 🔵 blue vocabulary · 🩷 pink grammar · 🟠 orange expressions · 🟢 green communication.
  • A 🚩 flag marks where the class currently is. The road is paved up to it and dotted beyond.
  • A done stop is pressed flat and paler, and keeps its number. There is no tick. The 🧑‍🎓 rides your current stop, which glows.
  • Tap a stop → its goal page.
  • The 🏁 button under the map opens the GramMarathon Finale (one long gap-fill across all 50 goals).
  • Keyboard shortcut anywhere: type a two-digit number (e.g. 31) to jump the map to that stop.

2.3 The goal page (/sio/SIO-0NN) Open on fluolingo.com ↗

Screenshot: goal
Goal 5. The tags, the one sentence, the tiles. Grey tiles have nothing at this goal. The pills at the edges show where a swipe goes: ‹ Map, 💡 ›, and 🎯 6 ⌄ below.
  • Shows: the stop number, its unit, its type tag(s), and one sentence = what you will be able to do.
  • Under it, up to 8 tiles: 💡 SpecuLearn · 📚 MneMemo · 🃏 MémoiRecall · 🏃 GramMarathon · 🌧️ VocabulaRain · 🔐 LexicaLocker · 🧩 ComposeIt · 🎙️ WorDrill.
  • A greyed tile = this goal has nothing for that activity.
  • Swipe up / down to move to the previous / next goal. A counter reads « n / 50 ».

2.4 The top bar (every page)

  • the menu · FluOLinGo wordmark = back to Home · 🚀 start (or resume) the mid-term revision path — it shows how far you are once one is running · 🔇 / volume one mute for all sound · account sign in / out. Your Favourites are in the ☰ menu, on the yellow row.
  • Two things left this bar on 14 Sep and are not lost: your answer history is in ☰ → 👤 User → History, and your current stop is the editable 🎯 NN just above the map, next to the zoom.

2.5 The ☰ menu — 7 rows, read top to bottom in the order you do them

  • GO TO: type a goal number, tap 🎯. That opens the goal. It also re-aims every goal-based tile in the menu (MneMemo, MémoiRecall, GramMarathon, VocabulaRain, LexicaLocker, WorDrill, ComposeIt) at that goal.
  • A menu tile turns grey when that activity has nothing at the chosen goal.
  • Old shortcuts still work: /practice → SpecuLearn, /games → VocabulaRain, /skills → VoixLà, /map → Home.

2.6 Bottom bar (phone only) Open on fluolingo.com ↗

  • Off by default. Turn rows on in ⚙️ Settings → « Bottom bar ».

2.7 Three floating buttons you may see

Screenshot: composeit
ComposeIt with both floating buttons: 🐞 report a bug and 🛠️ tools.
  • 🛠️ tools (in WorDrill, ComposeIt, ÉcouTexte): opens a card over the exercise with 🔊 VoixLà and/or 🤖 ChaTutor. The exercise stays where it is. ÉcouTexte offers ChaTutor only, so nothing can read you the answer.
  • 🐞 report a bug: tick what went wrong (page won't load, audio didn't play, answer marked wrong, French incorrect, activity stuck, layout broken, other), add a screenshot if you like. Works signed in or out.
It pays 5 💎. Two reports a day earn gems; report a third and it still reaches us, it just does not pay. If the bug turns out to be a serious one there is more, and how much is not announced.
  • ✨ tour (bottom left on Home, unit and lesson pages): replays the short guided tour of that page.

2.8 What every drill has in common

  • How many questions? appears first on long decks: 10, 25 or all.
  • ? = hints, one step at a time. The last step shows the answer.
Using the last step means the item goes to ErroReview and pays no first-try points.
  • WHY appears only after a wrong answer, only if you tap it. Never before, never for a right answer.
  • ↵ Enter fires the visible button. Number keys pick options.
  • At the end: a recap with your score, then « Next › » naming the next step for this goal.
  • Games instead end on a post-mortem: each miss, what you did, where it lives on the map, and CORRIGER MAINTENANT → ErroReview.
  • No hearts, no lockouts in drills. Only the three arcade games have lives.
👣

One goal, step by step (the intended path)

3
Screenshot: help
The same path as the app's own Help page (☰ → Start → Help).
  1. Select the goal. Tap it on the map, or ☰ → GO TO → number → 🎯.
  2. Guess first: 💡 SpecuLearn. You are not meant to know it yet. Wrong costs nothing.
  3. Learn it: 📚 MneMemo. Read the idea, look at the forms, do the 12 exercise cards.
  4. Make it stick: 🃏 MémoiRecall. Flashcards on the same words.
  5. Practise it. Type it (🏃 GramMarathon, 🔤 ConjugaZone), say it (🎙️ WorDrill), hear it (🎧 ÉcouTexte), play it (🌧️ 🔐 🔢).
  6. Come back: ❌ ErroReview. Whatever you missed returns on a schedule.
  7. The stop is marked done (pressed flat, paler) once you have tried every learning activity it offers (games do not count).

Before the lesson (flipped learning): do step 2 first, then come to class. Before a test (revision): do the same step 2 to find what you still do not know, then steps 5 and 6.

The activities, one by one

Each block: What you do · How it works · Ends with · Note.

💡 SpecuLearn — guess before you are taught Open on fluolingo.com ↗

Screenshot: speculearn-answeredScreenshot: speculearn-landing
Left: one question, answered. « 1 / 23 · Score 1/23 », Skip pretest, the 🔊 toggle, the ⌄ to go on. Right: the SpecuLearn landing, all 50 goals by unit.
  • What: multiple choice, one question per screen, about the goal you picked.
  • How: a French sentence with a gap, a bare word, or a picture; four options. Tap one. 🔊 hears the full sentence. Swipe down (⌄) for the next. « Skip pretest » jumps to the end.
  • Ends: score out of total, a folded recap of the forms (when the goal has one), ↻ Retry.
  • Note: earns no points, records no mistakes for ErroReview, and needs no sign-in. It is the same activity whether you use it before the lesson or before a test.

📚 MneMemo — the lesson Open on fluolingo.com ↗

Screenshot: mnemo
MneMemo for goal 5, on the Idea tab. The four tabs above; the idea's own chips (The idea, Q & A, Traps 3, Steps 2, Check 2, Sum up) below.
  • What: the rule, then 12 practice cards. Opens only from a goal (map tile, goal page, or ☰ GO TO).
  • How: four tabs first:
Always 12 cards. A harder level is harder, never shorter. Wrong cards come back once at the end.
    • 🎯 Goal — back to the goal card.
    • 📐 Form — the rule tables, with MémoiRecall (this lesson's flashcards) folded under them.
    • 💡 Idea — the one idea: the English logic vs the French logic, one question, one answer, one thing to remember. Traps and a mini-check are folded under it.
    • 🏋️ Exercise — pick a level, then the cards take the whole screen:
    LevelCardsWhat you do
    ★ Facile4 pick + 8 put-in-orderrecognise
    ★★ Moyen12fill one missing piece
    ★★★ Difficile12fill two missing pieces
🎁 Bonus12translate the whole sentence from English
  • Ends: 🎉 with points, accuracy, time, and the items you missed. Finishing the run counts the goal as done and pays the goal bonus.
  • Note: needs sign-in. A half-finished run can be resumed.

🃏 MémoiRecall — flashcards Open on fluolingo.com ↗

Screenshot: flip
MémoiRecall in « One » view, Étudier mode. Tap the card to flip it.
  • What: English on the front, French on the back.
  • How: choose how many. Three views: 🂠 One (the drill), ▤ All (every card in a grid), ▦ List (the deck as a table). In « One », two modes:
    • 📖 Étudier — tap the card to flip it. Then ✓ I know it or ↺ To review.
    • ✍️ Me tester — type the French. Pick the article, type the noun. On a phone, tap word tiles instead of typing.
    • 🔊 Listen under every card.
  • Ends: ✓ right · ✗ wrong (or ✓ known · ↺ to review), deck total, 🃏 Again, ▦ Whole list.
  • Note: revealing the answer is allowed. It is a flashcard. It just does not pay first-try points.

🏃 GramMarathon — type the missing word Open on fluolingo.com ↗

Screenshot: grammarathon
GramMarathon. The gap sits in the sentence, the English below, word tiles on a phone, ? for hints.
  • What: a sentence with a gap. No options. You type the missing word, for a whole deck.
  • How: the gap sits inside the sentence, English meaning below. A wrong try lets you retry. « Bien ! (accent differs) » still counts as right. ? gives the base word, the first letter, the skeleton.
  • Ends: ✓ score, ↻ Again.
  • Note: 27 of the 50 goals have gap sentences; on the others the tile is grey. The 🏁 Finale (under the map) is a daily paper of 50 questions: at least one from every goal, the rest weighted towards your weak spots.

🔤 ConjugaZone — verb endings Open on fluolingo.com ↗

Screenshot: conjugazone
ConjugaZone opens on a blanked table. REVEAL / TYPE IT switch, SHOW CONJUGATIONS, one 🔊 per form.
  • What: learn a conjugation table, then type each form.
  • How: pick verbs (default: être, avoir, aller). The table opens blanked. REVEAL mode: tap a cell to see it. TYPE IT mode: every cell is a box. 🎲 adds a full phrase under every person. Questions → starts the drill: one person + verb, you type the form. On a phone, the word tiles are the same verb's other forms, so you must really choose.
  • Ends: back to the table with 🎉 ✓ score.
  • Note: opened from a goal, it loads that goal's verbs. It sits on the swipe chain for the 40 goals whose lesson has verbs. Your verb answers are graded and remembered, but they are never dealt in ErroReview, which only replays deck words.

❌ ErroReview — what you got wrong comes back Open on fluolingo.com ↗

Screenshot: erroreview
ErroReview with nothing due yet. Practise any deck and its words come back here on schedule.
  • What: the words that are due today. Read or hear the French, pick the English among four.
  • How: 20 cards per batch. A right answer is spoken back. When a game sent you here, its misses come first.
  • Ends: « Review done · ✓ score », ▶ Next 20 (N left) if more are due, and WHERE YOUR GAPS ARE: one row per deck with weak / due / seen counts, each linking to that deck's MémoiRecall.
  • Note: the schedule is fixed: right → see it again in 1 day, then 3, then 7, then 14 days. Wrong → back to today. Reviewing early does not skip a step. Nothing due → « Nothing due right now 🎉 ». A word you have never practised is not "due".

🎮 AMUSE (the three arcade games — these have lives)

Open on fluolingo.com ↗

🌧️ VocabulaRain — words fall, sort them Open on fluolingo.com ↗

Screenshot: vocabularain-studyScreenshot: vocabularain
Left: the study card before the game, with « Let's go! ». Right: the rain. « le matin » is falling; steer it into MOMENT.
  • What: words fall from the sky. Steer each into its correct column (category).
  • How: a study table shows the exact words that will fall (« Jump to game » to skip). Speed rises every 6 words. Sort every word right and the day turns to night (slower, some letters hidden), then storm, then dawn. 3 misses in the storm drops you back to night.
  • Ends: when a column stacks to the top. Post-mortem of misses.
  • Note: no lives. The game ends when a column stacks to the top. It keeps its own in-game score, and pays 60 XP the first time you finish it at a goal — then 60 again on any run that beats that score. Available at 33 of the 50 goals. One expert set costs gems.

🔢 Numbers — NumBus and NumBourse Open on fluolingo.com ↗

Screenshot: numbusScreenshot: numbus-gameScreenshot: numbourse
NumBus setup (tick what to practise), NumBus in play (hear the number, type it on the keypad), and the NumBourse landing with its eight levels.
  • 🚌 NumBus: tick what to practise: numbers 0–99, times, prices, phone numbers (FR or SG style), each with its own range. Hear a French number, type the digits on the board before the bus leaves. 10 rounds, 3 lives, 🐌 replays slower.
  • Both pay 60 XP the first time you finish, and 60 again whenever you beat your own best score.
  • 📈 NumBourse: you are a floor trader. Hear a shouted price, type the digits, lock the trade before the ticket expires. 8 levels from 0–9 up to 999 999. 6 trades per level, 3 lives. The number is repeated every 3 seconds.
  • Note: both count towards your daily streak. Neither pays XP.

🔐 LexicaLocker — rebuild the word Open on fluolingo.com ↗

Screenshot: lexicalocker
LexicaLocker, level 1. Three chests on the lane, three lives, the keys arrive on the belt below.
  • What: a locked chest shows the English. Build the French from syllable keys moving on a belt.
  • How: put the right key in the right slot. A wrong key rattles back and costs a life. 3 lives, 6 words per level. Level 1 = whole word, levels 2–3 = syllables, level 4+ = random letter chunks. Hard mode hides how many pieces.
  • Ends: post-mortem of misses.
  • Note: available at 28 of the 50 goals; a deck not yet prepared says « LexicaLocker is being prepared ». Pays XP per word, and misses go to ErroReview.

🎙️ WorDrill — say it, the mic grades you Open on fluolingo.com ↗

Screenshot: wordrillScreenshot: wordrill-card
Left: pick your ground, 🌍 Tout or one unit, with word counts. Right: a card. Tap the mic and say « jaune ».
  • What: say the French out loud.
  • How: choose a scope (🌍 Tout = every deck, or one unit), then how many. Prompt in English (recall) or French (read aloud). The mic always grades French. Verdicts: ✅ Parfait · ✅ Bien (accent differs) · ✅ same pronunciation · 🟡 Presque (most words hit) · ❌ Not quite. ? hints: how it starts, its skeleton, then the written form. Two misses climb the hints for you.
  • Ends: ✓ score and a dot map of the run.
  • Note: « parler » and « parlez » sound the same, so both pass. Misses go to ErroReview. 🛠️ tools available.

🎧 ÉcouTexte — hear a short text, write the words Open on fluolingo.com ↗

Screenshot: ecoutexte
ÉcouTexte before Start: topic, ⏯, 🐇🐌 speed, ♀♂ voice, blank sizing.
  • What: dictation. Pick a unit and topic. A short text plays. One box per word. Type what you hear.
  • How: controls: ⏯ play/pause · 🐇🐌 speed · ♀♂ voice · blank sizing · number of sentences. Tap any sentence to work on it. A right sentence confirms itself. A wrong one waits until you press Check or Show the sentence. A box you leave empty is never marked wrong.
  • Ends: when every sentence is done. Each text is used once; when a topic is used up the page says so.
  • Note: a sentence you « Show » is recorded as copied and its words go to ErroReview. 🛠️ offers ChaTutor only.

🔊 VoixLà — type French, hear it, get it checked Open on fluolingo.com ↗

Screenshot: voixla
VoixLà. Type, then 👩 voice, ×1.0 speed, ▶ speak, 🎧 MP3, ✏️ check.
  • What: a French voice for anything you type.
  • How: type, speaks it (👩/👨 voice, 5 speeds), ✏️ checks it and shows corrections as tracked changes, 🎧 makes an MP3.
  • Note: needs sign-in. Inside a 🛠️ card it corrects first and only ever speaks the corrected French.

🤖 ChaTutor — ask anything Open on fluolingo.com ↗

Screenshot: chatutor
ChaTutor. A messenger: type or dictate (🎤🇫🇷 / 🎤🇬🇧), French replies in blue with ▶ and 🐌 to hear them.
  • What: a chat tutor, in French or English.
  • How: works like a messenger. Enter sends. French replies are in blue and can be spoken. You can dictate with the mic. Opened from a 🛠️ card, it already knows which exercise and item you were on.
  • Note: needs sign-in and the live server. Without it, it says so politely.

🧩 ComposeIt — play a scene, your writing gets corrected Open on fluolingo.com ↗

Screenshot: composeit
ComposeIt, « Au café ». The waiter speaks first; you build your line from the chips below.
  • What: a role-play (café, directions, shopping…). You write your lines.
  • How: build each line from phrase chips, sends it. The other character replies out loud and moves the scene on (greet → order → drink → bill → goodbye). Some scenes have check my work, where the other character reads your whole text and reacts.
  • Ends: post-mortem. Finishing a scene pays 120 XP.
  • Note: available at 13 goals: 9, 10, 20, 21, 23, 29, 30, 36, 40, 41, 44, 49, 50 (the six communication goals 10, 20, 30, 40, 49, 50 among them). Goal 23's scene, « Présenter quelqu'un », hands you a different person each time and asks six questions; the word count sits in the bar. The chips come only from words the goal's deck teaches. Needs sign-in. 🛠️ tools available.

                                                    │
ErroReview → « where your gaps are » → back to MémoiRecall
  • One deck, many doors. The same words appear in SpecuLearn, MneMemo, MémoiRecall, GramMarathon, WorDrill, VocabulaRain, LexicaLocker and ComposeIt. Repeating never means the same exercise twice.
  • SpecuLearn is outside the loop. No answer of yours is scored there and nothing you get wrong is held against you — it is a cold guess, on purpose. Finishing the run pays 60 XP regardless of how you did.
  • ErroReview is the sink. Game misses, hints taken, revealed answers, and « Show the sentence » in ÉcouTexte all flow into it.
  • Feeds ErroReview: MneMemo's exercise, MémoiRecall (Me tester), GramMarathon, WorDrill, ÉcouTexte, LexicaLocker, and a game post-mortem when the missed word is a deck word.
  • Does not feed it: SpecuLearn, VoixLà, ChaTutor, ConjugaZone, NumBus, NumBourse.
  • ConjugaZone and Numbers are not tied to a deck. ConjugaZone uses the verb list; Numbers generates numbers.
  • The lesson makes the stop tick, the rest makes it stick. Finishing MneMemo pays the goal bonus; MémoiRecall and ErroReview keep the words alive.
  • The ladder of demand: guess → learn → recognise (MémoiRecall, VocabulaRain, LexicaLocker, ÉcouTexte) → produce (GramMarathon, ConjugaZone, WorDrill) → create (ComposeIt, ChaTutor).

Points, streaks, gems, badges

⭐ XP (never spent; drives your level and the leaderboard)

You do thisYou get
A right answer, first try60
A wrong answer, first try20 (effort counts)
Second try on the same item0 (it is remembered, not paid). Wrong then right in one run = 20 in total, not 20 + 60
Reveal the answer0
A goal becomes done300, plus up to 300 more depending on how many of its words you have mastered
Finish a ComposeIt scene120
Finish SpecuLearn, VocabulaRain, NumBus or NumBourse for the first time at a goal60
…and again on any run that beats your own best60
A run that does not beat your best0 — and nothing is taken away
  • Nothing you can open pays nothing. Every activity is worth XP at least once. The four that are not paid per answer pay for the run instead.
  • Beating your own best pays again. Play a game all afternoon if you like: every genuine improvement earns another 60. A worse run simply earns nothing. Your best is kept per game per goal, so a record on the Unit 0 deck is not a record on Unit 3.
  • SpecuLearn is the exception: it pays for finishing, once per goal, and never for the score. It is the guess before the lesson — if the score paid, the clever move would be to do the lesson first, and the activity would stop measuring anything. A wrong guess is worth exactly what a right one is.
  • 🔥 Multiplier: 3-day streak ×1.5 · 7 days ×2 · 14 days ×2.5 · 30 days ×3 (the ceiling). Applies to every award above.
  • 🎚️ Level 0–4: level 1 at 2 000 XP, level 2 at 6 000, level 3 at 14 000, level 4 at 30 000.
  • There is no daily XP cap.

🔥 Streak

  • Any graded answer counts the day. Right or wrong. NumBus and NumBourse count too.
  • The day changes at 4 am your local time, so 1 am still counts as yesterday. A wrong answer never breaks a streak.
  • Miss one day: a ❄️ Streak-Freezer saves it automatically (you are told the next morning). Miss two: back to 1.
  • ❄️ Streak-Freezer: 25 gems, hold at most 2, bought in advance in Settings → Gems.

💎 Gems (the only currency; never needed to learn anything)

  • You start with 20, free, once. That is the same as one level-up and the same as the cheapest colour in the shop, so you can read your purse against a price you can see. It is about three exercises' worth of lucky finds — enough that your first session never meets a price you cannot pay.
  • Earned by: badges (5–50 each, once) · every level-up (20) · a bug report (5, twice a day) · lucky finds on answers (2 gems, rarely 10; about 1 answer in 8, guaranteed by the 12th find-less answer; at most 40 gems a day). A find can only ever give — there is no bad outcome and nothing is ever taken away.
  • Spent on: home accent colours (Rose 20 · Turquoise 20 · Violet 30 · Émeraude 30 · Or 50) · Streak-Freezer (25) · the « Expert countries » VocabulaRain set (30).
  • Over all fifty goals a thorough learner earns roughly 1 450 gems. The whole shop costs 205, so gems are never what stands between you and the course.

✓ When is a stop done?

  • When you have attempted every learning activity the stop offers (one answer each is enough, right or wrong).
  • Games (VocabulaRain, LexicaLocker, Numbers) are extras and are not required.
  • Finishing the MneMemo run also completes the stop.
  • A done stop never becomes undone.

Celebrations

  • A small banner for a streak day, a done stop, a saved streak, a small find.
  • A banner with a chime for a level-up, a badge, a new multiplier, a perfect run, a 10-gem find.
  • Confetti and a fanfare for a finished unit.

Sign-in, saving, devices

7
  • Sign-in is with Google. It is needed for the lesson, the drills, the games, ErroReview, VoixLà, ChaTutor, the leaderboard and history.
  • No sign-in needed for the map, the goal pages, SpecuLearn, Help, Favourites and the 🐞 bug button.
  • Signed in: your progress is saved to the cloud and follows you to any device (about 2.5 seconds after each answer).
  • Signed out: progress still works, but stays on this device only.
  • Signing out wipes your learning data from that device (cloud copy is kept). Preferences like volume stay.
  • The site can be installed as an app: after your third visit it offers to. On iPhone: Share → Add to Home Screen.

Good to know

8
  • Chrome is English, French is the content. Buttons speak English; unit names, badges and colours keep their French.
  • Spoken French is graded gently, typed French strictly. The mic accepts what sounds right. The keyboard needs the right letters, and usually the right accents.
  • Wrong options are meant to be tempting. A distractor like « l'lecture » is there because that is the mistake a beginner makes.
  • A number on a closed section tells you what is inside (« 18 words », « 3 traps »). Open it if you need it.
  • Sound: one mute switch and a volume slider in the top bar. Individual drills have their own 🔊/🔇 for read-aloud.
  • The first time on a page you may get a short guided tour or a « what to do here » card. Tick « do not show again » to stop it.
  • Teacher view exists but is not linked. Teachers get the address directly.

Things you will NOT find (on purpose)

  • No hearts or lockouts in drills.
  • No locked content. Gems buy decoration only.
  • No ranks or titles. Only a level number 0–4.
  • No « mark as done » button. Done is earned by doing.
  • No scoring in SpecuLearn. A guess stays a guess.
